Recipe for these Party Cheese Sticks comes from one of my aunts. She makes them often and I’m addicted to them. Once when I was visiting her, she packed a box of these sticks for me to carry home. I started eating them on the road, and, by the time I arrived home, they were all gone. The story is embarassing, but it shows how addictive they are.
I made a couple of changes to the original recipe. First, I used butter instead of margarine, because it simply tastes better. Second, I added a little bit of baking powder (there was no baking powder in the original recipe). I still cannot decide which were better – with baking powder or without it. I like both options: dense cheese sticks (without powder) and flakier ones (with powder). You will have to decide for yourself.
I dare to say these Cheese Sticks are ultimate party food. Serve them with various dips, sliced veggies, prosciutto and cheese. Beer or wine would be great, too. Enjoy!
- 1 lb cottage cheese 500 g
- 1 lb butter or margarine 500 g
- 1 lb all-purpose flour 500 g
- 2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp baking powder optional
- TOPPING:
- 1 egg
- salt
- cumin seeds
- sesame seeds
-
In a large bowl, combine cottage cheese, butter, flour, salt and baking powder. Mix to form a dough. You can use food processor for this step (I did).
-
Roll out the dough on a floured surface. Rolled dough should be about 1/3 inch (1 cm) thick. Using a sharp knife cut in sticks, about 2 inches (7 cm) long.
-
Transfer cheese sticks to a baking tray lined with baking paper. Brush tops with beaten egg. Sprinkle with salt, cumin seeds, sesame seeds or other toppings of your choice.
-
Bake in 350 F (175 C) preheated oven for about 20 minutes or until golden.
When Saving a recipe I still get the “Zip it” is no longer supported Page and it asks me to enroll or register for the new supported Page . I already Have Surely I don’t have to check in for every recipe I want to save…if so… Not effective use of my time
I just removed ZipList plugin from my site. I believe you should not have problems any more.
how long do these last for? so like how early can i make for a party
They are the best when they are fresh. So, I would suggest making them on the day of your party.
To save time, maybe you could make them a few days earlier, place them on baking trays and freeze them while they are still raw. Then, when the party day comes, you can just put them in the oven. I haven’t tried doing that but I suppose it should work.
