You can make Red Velvet Cake Balls from scratch, like I did, and use my recipe for Red Velvet Whoopie Pies to make both the cake and the frosting.
Or you can take the shortcut version and use boxed red velvet cake mix and a can of cream cheese frosting. Whichever you prefer.

red velvet cake balls
Ingredients
- 1 box red velvet cake mix
- 1 (16 oz) can cream cheese frosting
- chocolate and sprinkles for decoration, dark or white
Instructions
-
Bake the cake according to package directions. Let cool completely, then crumble the cake into a large bowl. Mix cake crumbs with frosting until it can be formed into balls that hold together. The dough should not be sticky, so you may not need all of the frosting.
-
Form into balls and place on a cookie sheet lined with wax paper. Refrigerate cake balls for a few hours.
-
Dip cake balls into melted chocolate and decorate with sprinkles.

They are so pretty! I bet they are really moist and yummy too :-). It’s always good to have a bite-size cake for a chocolate craving emergency 🙂
