Nutella Star Cookies – dazzle your guests at your holiday party with these wonderful nutella filled cut-out butter cookies.
I saw an image of nougat star cookies on an Slovenian forum. They looked so cute, I simply had to make them. But, alas, there was no recipe. I searched and searched without any luck. So I decided to improvise and use regular butter cookie dough, fill it with nutella and coat in chocolate.
I’m not going to lie to you: these cookies are not easy to make, but they are worth the trouble. The doug is very soft and needs to be refrigerated in order to roll it out and cut out Christmas star shaped cookies. After baking, stars need to cool down before handling or they break easily. Stuffing with nutella is simple, but coating in chocolate can be messy. When you finally manage to go through those steps you only need to sprinkle cookies with golden sprinkles and wait for chocolate to set.
Nutella Star Cookies are not an everyday type of cookies, but if you want to dazzle your guests, serve them at your next holiday party.

- 16 Tbsp unsalted butter 1 1/2 stick + 2 Tbsp; 200 g
- 1 cup powdered sugar 120 g
- 1 egg white
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 Tbsp sour cream
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour 350 g
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 4 tsp cocoa
- melted chocolate
- golden sprinkles
Cream butter and sugar until fluffy.
Add egg white, vanilla extract and sour cream and mix.
Combine flour with baking powder and cocoa and add to the butter mixture. Mix until just incorporated.
Wrap the dough in plastic cling film and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
Roll out the dough to a 1/5 inch (5 mm) thickness. Cut out cookies using a Christmas star shaped cookie cutter.
Place cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for about 5-8 minutes in 375 F (175 C). Let cookies cool on the cookie sheet.
Spread a layer of nutella on a cookie. Add another cookie on top to create a sandwich. Repeat with all cookies.
Dip cookie sandwiches in melted chocolate and place on a wire rack. Sprinkle with golden sprinkles.
