Ingredients
- 1 tsp tea leaves per person plus “one for the pot“
- sugar
- milk or
- slices of lemon
Instructions

Fill the kettle with fresh cold water and heat it to the boil.

Pour it over the tea, then stir and leave to brew for 3-5 minutes.

Pour the tea through a tea strainer.

Serve with milk and sugar, or lemon and sugar.

You say this is not the correct way to make an English tea. Will you please share what IS the correct way? We’re having an English-theme open house at our history museum in December.
We have always been taught to pour boiling water over tea leaves. When I trained as a barista, we were taught not to boil water as it burns tea leaves. People, what do you think.
Heat water to steaming, pull off the heat just before the boil and pour over tea leaves. I believe the “old fashioned” way is to boil the water though. Our water is much cleaner than the days of old….
